XAMPP is installed on the Server (192.168.2.6), a Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall enabled. The Client (192.168.2.5) is used to connect to the Server and test the XAMPP services. The first thing to check when implementing such networks is communication. Communication between Client and Server can be tested using the command line PING. Start the FileZilla administration interface by clicking the 'Admin' button in the XAMPP control panel. In the resulting 'Connect to Server' dialog box, leave all values at their default values and click 'OK'. You should now arrive at the FileZilla server console. You now need to set up at least one FTP user. The FileZilla that comes with XAMPP is the server part. When that service is running it allows you to use any FTP client to connect to that server to transfer files. There is no graphical interface. To make the FileZilla server start automatically with Windows leave the default option “Install as a server, started with Windows “. If you want to start it manually then you can choose that one. Move forward, follow the wizard and wait for few seconds the FileZilla server will be on your Windows 10 system up and running.
XAMPP is a one-step installation of the Apache web server for Windows.
The installation file doesn't just include the open source web server, but also MySQL, PHP and Perl for installing and testing web sites on a Windows server.
Usage scenarios for applications like XAMPP vary, but it certainly comes in handy when testing web sites on a Windows system without an Internet connection. It can run anything from Wordpress to Joomla or custom PHP.
The XAMPP application provides a user control panel which can enable and disable modules like Mercury, the Apache server itself, MySQL, Tomcat or FileZilla. Password protection can also be enabled from the 'Service Settings'.
