Limesurvey Xampp

In this article, I’ll show you how to set up XAMPP on a Windows 7 machine. The process is largely the same on Windows XP, if you’re repurposing an older machine. One thing to keep in mind, though, is the newest versions of XAMPP use a version of PHP for which there is not an MSSQL driver. I'm trying configure XAMPP to use with MSSQL. I'm following this: Example but I still had success. I copied the files: phppdosqlsrv54ts.dll and phpsqlsrv54ts.dll to folder c:xamppphpext and configured php.ini in c:xamppphpphp.ini. In php.ini I activated the extensions: extension=phppdosqlsrv54ts.dll and extension=phpsqlsrv54ts.dll and created PDO section. XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MariaDB, PHP, and Perl. Just download and start the installer. Mssql xampp.

The XAMPP packages is only meant to be able to install LimeSurvey on your local PC in an easy way. It won't/shouldn't be possible for anyone on the Internet to access your surveys. The XAMPP package is meant as a single user solution and should not be installed on a real web server.

This is my own Installation.Worked everytime.
Required Software:
Lime Survey v.1.85
MS Web Platform Installer
MySQL v.5.1.36
PHP v.5.3
Installing IIS on Windows XP Pro
If you are running Windows XP Professional on your computer you can install Microsoft's web server, Internet Information Server 5.1 (IIS) for free from the Windows XP Pro installation CD and configure it to run on your system by following the instructions below: -
1. Place the Windows XP Professional CD-Rom into your CD-Rom Drive.
2. Open 'Add/Remove Windows Components' found in 'Add/Remove Programs' in the 'Control Panel'.
3. Place a tick in the check box for 'Internet Information Services (IIS)' leaving all the default installation settings intact.
4. Once IIS is installed on your machine you can view your home page in a web browser by typing 'http://localhost'; (you can substitute 'localhost' for the name of your computer) into the address bar of your web browser.
5. If you are not sure of the name of your computer right-click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop, select 'Properties' from the shortcut menu, and click on the 'Computer Name' tab.
6. Your default web directory to place your web site in is 'C:Inetpubwwwroot', but if you don't want to over write the IIS documentation found in this directory you can set up your own virtual directory through the 'Internet Information Services' console.
7. The 'Internet Information Services' console can be found in the 'Administration Tools' in the 'Control Panel' under 'Performance and Maintenance', if you do not have the control panel in Classic View.Go to Performance and Maintance
8. Double-click on the 'Internet Information Services' icon.
Administration Tools/Internet Information Services Icon
8. Once the 'Internet Information Services' console is open you will see any IIS web services you have running on your machine including the SMTP server and FTP server, if you chose to install them with IIS.
Install the Micrososft Web Platform Installer from Microsoft no need for FastCGI
Now download LimeSurvey 1.85+ unzip to a folder.
Now copy the 'limesurvey' folder that contains all the php files including the index.php file to the following directory
C:Inetpubwwwroot
Install PHP v.5.3 using default settings
Copy the libmysql.dll file (should be located like C:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Server 5.1bin or C:phplibmysql.dll ) into your Window's System folder (usually C:WindowsSystem32 although might be C:WinNTSystem or something).
Now we need to make some changes to the config.php file that is in the C:Inetpubwwwrootlimesurvey folder
// Basic Setup
$databasetype = 'mysql'; // ADOdb database driver - valid values are mysql, odbc_mssql or postgres
$databaselocation = 'localhost'; // Network location of your Database - for odbc_mssql use the mssql servername, not localhost or IP
$databasename = 'limesurvey'; // The name of the database that we will create
$databaseuser = 'limesurveyuser'; // The name of a user with rights to create db (or if db already exists, then rights within that db)
$databasepass = 'limesurvey'; // Password of db user
$dbprefix = 'lime_'; // A global prefix that can be added to all LimeSurvey tables. Use this if you are sharing
// a database with other applications. Suggested prefix is 'lime_'
$databasetabletype = 'MyISAM';
// File Locations
$rooturl = 'http://{$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']}/limesurvey'; //The root web url for your limesurvey installation (without a trailing slash). The double quotes (') are important.
$rootdir = 'C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/limesurvey'; // This is the physical disk location for your limesurvey installation. Normally you don't have to touch this setting.
// If you use IIS then you MUST enter the complete rootdir e.g. : $rootDir='C:Inetpubwwwrootlimesurvey'!
// Some IIS installations also require to use forward slashes instead of backslashes, e.g. $rootDir='C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/limesurvey'!
// If you use OS/2 this must be the complete rootdir with FORWARD slashes e.g.: $rootDir='c:/limesurvey';!
// Site Setup
$sitename = 'LimeSurvey'; // The official name of the site (appears in the Window title)
$defaultuser = 'admin'; // This is the default username when LimeSurvey is installed
$defaultpass = 'password'; // This is the default password for the default user when LimeSurvey is installed
// Email Settings
$siteadminemail = '[email protected]'; // The default email address of the site administrator
$siteadminbounce = '[email protected]'; // The default email address used for error notification of sent messages for the site administrator (Return-Path)
$siteadminname = 'Your Name'; // The name of the site administrator
Install MySQL v.5.1.36 using default settings and dont forget the password you created here.
You will need it to log into the database via the web later ( http://localhost/limesurvey/admin/admin.php )
During the instalation you need to install Instances
If you get the following error
'Error:0 cannot create windows service for MySQL'
Try doing this during the instalation.
If you selected Dedicated MySQL Server Machine and your MySQL service does not start after the wizard completes,
First close the instalation.
Re-Open MySQL Server Instances Config Wizard and REMOVE the instance.
Close the app and then re-open MySQL Server Instances Config Wizard and then try to re-install.
I was installing it on my local machine where other applications & tools are running I decided to opt 'developer machine' but it is recommended that you use a Dedicated MySQL Server Machine for your MySQL database, if this is not an option then select 'Server Machine'.
This worked for me.
Once completed do the following
Open a command promp window
C:>cd C:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Server 5.1bin
C:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Server 5.1bin
type 'mysql -u limesurveyuser -p' without the quotes
if the above does not work try this
type 'mysql -u root -p' without the quotes
Enter the password you set when installing mysql
mysql>
mysql>CREATE DATABASE limesurvey;
mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON limesurvey.* TO 'limesurveyuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'limesurvey';
Close the command prompt
Now Open MySQL Administrator
In line with 'Stored Connections:' click on the browse button ' .. '
Connection: Enter IP address of the Windows XP machine
User Name: limesurveyuser
Password: limesurvey
Hostname: Use the PC name
Schema: limesurvey
Click Apply and Close the window
Select in the drop down box the IP address of your pc and enter your password.
Click ' OK ' and you will be logged onto your server and you will see IP addresses etc
Close this application
Run the Installation Script
Go to 'http://localhost/limesurvey/admin/install/index.php';
and follow the prompts to create the tables
Then close the browser
Go to C:Inetpubwwwrootlimesurveyadmin and rename the folder ' install ' to ' install.old '
Now log into Limesurvey to create surveys using the following link
http://localhost/limesurvey/admin/admin.php
Log into the server using the following credentials
Username: admin
Passowrd: the password you created during the instalation of MySQL Instance
