Current Coordinated Universal Time

  1. What Is The Coordinated Universal Time

The Uses and Functions of Coordinated Universal Time. Since the world is divided into time zones based on how and when the day and night cycles occur, each of the zones represents a positive or negative offset from the central UTC time. The farthest western time zone is UTC-12 for example, and the farther eastern zone theoretically is UTC+12. The National Institute of Standards and Technology - Time and Frequency Division maintains the standard for frequency and time interval for the United States, provides official time to the United States, and carries out a broad program of research and service activities in time and frequency metrology.

Current UTC, Time Zone (Coordinated Universal Time) Time/General; Time Zone; DST. Current time: 16:58:05 UTC. UTC is replaced with Z that is the zero UTC offset. UTC time in ISO-8601 is 16:58:05 Z. The time can be displayed using both the 24-hour format (0 - 24) or the 12-hour format (1 - 12 am/pm). UTC is not a time zone, but a time standard that is the basis for civil time and time zones worldwide. This means that no country or territory officially uses UTC as a.

Returns the current database system timestamp as a datetime value. The database time zone offset is not included. This value represents the current UTC time (Coordinated Universal Time). This value is derived from the operating system of the computer on which the instance of SQL Server is running.

SYSDATETIME and SYSUTCDATETIME have more fractional seconds precision than GETDATE and GETUTCDATE. SYSDATETIMEOFFSET includes the system time zone offset. SYSDATETIME, SYSUTCDATETIME, and SYSDATETIMEOFFSET can be assigned to a variable of any of the date and time types.

Transact-SQL statements can refer to GETUTCDATE anywhere they can refer to a datetime expression.

GETUTCDATE is a nondeterministic function. Views and expressions that reference this function in a column cannot be indexed.

The following examples use the six SQL Server system functions that return current date and time to return the date, time or both. The values are returned in series; therefore, their fractional seconds might be different.
